If you own an S&P 500 index fund, you probably think you’re spread across 500 different companies. And technically, you are. But ten of them — Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, and five others — now account for 40 cents of every dollar in that fund.

That’s a record. At the peak of the dot-com bubble in 2000 — when everyone from your barber to your brother-in-law was buying Cisco — the top 10 made up about 27%. That was considered dangerously top-heavy. We all remember what came next.

Here’s what most people get wrong. They hear “index fund” and think “diversified.” Their advisor probably used that word. The brochure definitely did. But the S&P 500 is market-cap weighted. The bigger the company, the bigger the slice of your pie it takes. And a handful of tech giants have gotten so big over the last decade that they swallowed the index whole... year after year after year.

Now think about what that means. If those ten stocks drop 20% and everything else stays flat, your “diversified” index fund loses 8%. That’s not diversification. That’s a concentrated bet with a nice-sounding name.

Solar lost. Wind lost. One won.

Washington just cut subsidies for solar.

Cut them for wind.

Cut them for EVs.

One energy source got the opposite. Full tax credits preserved through 2033.

Not because of politics. Because of physics.

It runs 24 hours a day. No sun needed. No batteries. No foreign supply chain. Zero carbon.

And there's 140 times more of it than global electricity demand.

The breakthrough came last year - a drilling crew reached it three miles underground in 16 days. The government said it would take 64.

Google signed a 15-year deal. Gates put in $100 million. The Pentagon calls it their top priority.

August 18th is the catalyst. One company with sixty years of infrastructure is positioned to capture it all.

And here’s the part that really gets me. The rotation is already happening. This week, chips are selling off hard. Big Tech is getting repriced. Meanwhile, small-cap stocks — the Russell 2000 — just posted their best first half since 1991. Up 22%. The rest of the market is doing fine. Your index fund just doesn’t show it.
